My king charles is about 1 1/2 years old and does not want to eat dog food. We have tried at least 7 different kinds. However, he will eat any kind of people food. We have tried not giving any people food to him but he gets so hungry he will eat paper or tissues because he is so hungry. I am at a loss as what to do. Any suggestions?

You should try mixing it with wet food and possibly warming it up and eventually wean off the wet food. Good luck!

It always amazes me how many people feel that they need to serve "dog food" to dogs or "baby food" to babies. We have been preparing delicious meals for our Cavalier ever since he was a baby. He loves all meats especially with the bones. We also serve rice and veggies and sometimes a little bit of dry Origins for balance. If you offer warm, mildly seasoned meats, your dog will be very happy and the bones help to keep the teeth clean and are very satisfying.

Stop spoiling your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. He's not eating paper and tissues because he's hungry, he's eating because he's bored. Walk him often and don't give him people food, give him dog food - he will learn quickly enough that he's not in charge of picking the menu. By the way, unless you're working with a vet to make sure your dog is getting enough of the right kind of nutrients, feeding people food sets them up for disabilities later in life.
