Technically, they don't. They're bird dogs that don't typically swim. You're thinking of a retriever breed. If your Brittany loves water, it's just because they're the best dogs ever.

Dont tell my Brittany that at 10 weeks I couldnt get mine out of the lake and even today at 7 months he makes my Neighbors lab(6 months old)look like a land dog. And they Do SWIM extremly well.

My Britt doesn't like to swim in the water, but she'll wade until the other dogs splash her and then she gets out. If you want a swimming dog, try a labrador or rat terrier!

My 12 week Brittany loves water too! She will stand under a sprinkler for as long as I would allow her. And it is next to impossible to keep her out of the shower. As soon as she hears the water running she jumps in, regardless if someone is in there or not! LOL

They are not considered bird dogs or spaniels in the United States, AKC, because they have more of a pointer behavior. Brittny Spaniels have a stonger sense of smell too. In France, they were called spaniels because of their physical features, not that much on the behavior or what they were bred to do.

Ours swam like a fish. Also hunted ducks, along with pheasants, and grouse. That is way I am trying to track down his bloodlines. I have heard that the German bred Brittanys are a bit different than some of the other bloodlines. More stocky, generally better all around hunting dogs, and not as high strung. The Wuffen dame with bloodline as mentioned in my question above is supposed to be a very good one. That is why I am looking for an answer to my question above.
