I have just rescued a Aussie/Brittnay Spaniel mix, 1 yr old male from Tenn., I have one big question to ask, will I ever be able to have him off a leash. He has showed me his strong instinct of smell and sight. I am willing to work hard with him, but my other Aussie is loose all the time and stays on the property. Would love any input. thank you

It is always possible to train a dog to do something, it is the amount of work required that varies. That is why a lot of people say their dogs 'can't' do something, when it is the owner at fault. From my experience with brittanys you will be able to have your off leash, but because that hunting instinct is there, you'll have to realize that the dog may not stay as close, nor automatically come with called. The greatest reward for any bird/game dog is running and hunting, as that is exactly what they were taught to do. I have taught my dogs to respond to a loud pitched whistle (it snaps them out of what I call 'hunting mode') in the field and come closer to me. Remember to keep everything VERY positive - it is what they respond to best. Best of luck!
