Boxer Question

my female boxer is 7 years old, can she still have puppies?

we've always wanted shakira(my dog) to have puppies, but we couldn't find another male boxer around. now that she's 7 we finally found a friend that has a healthy male boxer. shakira is a healthy female boxer. she's slightly over-weight in some parts. I think shakira is a little to old. i still want her to have puppies but i need to know if she's still able to withstand a pregnancy at her age. please write back when you get the chance. thanks :)

I'm sure she could have puppies, however; I'm not sure how safe it would be for her, or how healthy the puppies would be. Dogs are a lot like humans in that way, except, they actually are fertile their entire lives. They can still have heat cycles until they die, it is just a question of how hard it will be on the female, and how healthy the puppies will be. The eggs that would be fertilized would be 7 years old, being mature for at least 6 years. Your chances of unhealthy, very small, many birth defects, and still born are quite a bit increased from when she was 2. A boxer's life expectancy is usually 8-10 years...so, if you are wanting a puppy to keep from her, I wouldn't wait. If it were me, I wouldn't breed mine at that age, but I suggest you take her to your vet and see what they say. She may be very healthy, and they would think it is fine.
