I am a full time student with a small 60 square flat close to campus. I am home a few hours during the day between classes or when I study (long continuous hours at my desk) and usually go out in the evenings until late and then leave again later in the morning for class. I would love to get a puppy to snuggle with and make me feel safer when I'm alone in the flat. Would a Boston work?

No, Boston Terriers need a lot of love and affection. You would be better suited with a cat.

Boston’s are excellent dogs and make outstanding companions. But as a student you may want to rethink bringing any dog into your life right now. Dogs are a long term commitment and a huge responsibility requiring a considerable and a consistent amount of your time each every day, (especially puppies). Dogs are pack animals and need to be with you to be happy. You must have the time to spend with them training and playing every day for the next 10-14 years or so. As a student your life is still in flux, your schedule will change, and your future will bring unlimited changes, new employment opportunities, relocations and living conditions, etc… (all good things). And although your present schedule may permit you ample time to care for a dog, your future is very much an unknown right now and it may be better for both you and the dog to wait.
