I adopted a border terrier puppy from a shelter but all the pictures of the breed have straight tails. Mine has a tail that curls over his back. Is this normal or is he a mixed breed? Other than his tail he looks like a border terrier.

Mine too. The vet said she was "99% border terrier," and my dog (2 yr old female) looks every inch a BT except for that longer tail that curls over her back. She just has a little something extra.

Sometimes the curly tail can occur with a border terrier. Although its not 'breed standard' it doesnt mean that your border isnt 100 %. Curly tail genes are in some border blood lines and occasionly it comes through. :)

My Border is 100% pedigree but was born with a deformed tail, it's very short and has a little twist in the end. It makes no difference to me it makes her more endearing although other dog owners do question it.
