Border collies ability to "work" livestock, allows them to gather livestock.The heeler dogs have the ability to move the animals. I have watched mine work wonders with a red heeler. Due to the border collies almost passive nature in gathering and the heelers ability to forcefully move the herd, they are incredible

Yes they can work good together. Border Collie's get along with all dog's breeds.
