I am aware of the constant debate over whether border collies can live in a condo/apt., but I live in a town house, or a house in a gated community yet a bit of separation between each house. Are BCs alright to live inside my town house while I still give it exercise?

A Border Collie doesn't need a large area, eventhough that is desirable...They need a job! If you make them part of your family, give them the attention that you would give a child, you shouldn't have any problems. They are not dogs you can put in the back yard and pet occasionally....they are so smart that they will "invent a job" and drive you crazy. Several of our pups have gone to limited spaces but they go everywhere a child would go(to the store, doggie day care, out and about with you). If you can't do that, it's better not to get a Border Collie with limited space.

A border Collie left to his devices will not exercise himself, but a BC in an apartment with a responsible and dedicated owner can do really well. A lot of rescues will have border collies that are not high-strung and high energy like the ones people typically think of. There is a big range of temperament in BCs. I would NOT get one that was bred to do agility or any sports because those are usually high-strung and neurotic.

If you give it lots and lots of exercise, and then some. They also love games, but a long run is more important.
