I am a bachelor and a farmer I just moved into my house and live on a 7 acre lot with trees buildings etc. Its a farm home in nebraska. I was wondering if bloodhounds would be a good choice for me beings it would be an outdoor dog and all the smells. Can I train him to always come back after a scent he picks up? Thank you!

A bloodhound can be a great choice for the country they need lots of room to run and play but I would not suggest letting on run free. They are natural trackers and will track anything that they find interesting. You should keep them in a fenced yard or large kennel run and only take them out in the woods on a leash. Once a bloodhound has been lost out in the woods for a few days they become very skittish of people and my not even let their masters come close this is survival mode and if they track themselves away they may never come back. I am not saying that you could not train one like you are thinking but it would be very hard. I have bloodhounds and I keep them is a 6' fenced yard that is over an acre of land. I would research the breed a lot before getting one if you have never had one before
