We are currently fostering a black mouth cur. She is about 1.5 years old. Very timid. At the shelter they were trying to socialize her. My problem is she does not like my stepson who is 9. He is fearful of her and I think it scares her. SHe has nipped at him and I am concerned of course for his safety. She is otherwise very affectionate but does not like strangers. Any suggestions?

I have a cur that is very friendly but it sounds like a socialization issue. Buy some training treats and let your son start slowly making friends with your Cur. She probably has a trust issue but with some attention from your son and a few peace making treats she will probably come around.

This an old post but the dog should have gotten all of her food and high value possesions from your son. It would also including her "learning to earn" her dinner, toys, etc. With a little work to establish trust, she could turn into his best friend for a very long time to come. I hope things worked out.
