Black mouth curs are not so selectively bred, therefore there is some variety in size and coloring, but a much better health profile than dogs that are so standardized. They live longer and have fewer health problems associated with the breed. Just don't expect them to be a good hang around the house pet. They are smart and active !!! They need a job to do.

The AKC only recognizes breeds that ask them to recognize them. The Black Mouth Cur parent club would have to want this first. Once they apply for recognition, then they would need a standard as well an established breeding program that breeds true. It takes a while to become approved and lots of breeds do not care to be recognized.
