My bassett hound is a 3 yr old male. He's generally a very good dog. But he tends to play aggressively with my 8 year old even when my son doesn't want to play. The dog will go up and bite at him. Is there a good way to break him of this habit? I'm worried he'll get carried away.

You have to firmly, directly, down to your Basset's level with a firm, stern NO and really act upset with your dog. Immediately, remove him from all people contact, leave him along in a cage and after he is in there for 30 minutes, take him out and play with him in your friend voice. It may take 2-3 times for your Basset because they are stubborn but you will get thru to him! You just need to establish yourself and the Alpha corrector of bad behavior
