Do they not track by scent at all?

Yes they do. In fact, they actually see whatever it is moving and then they use the sent to identify it. They use both. Sight is the main one however.

Basenjis have an excellent sense of smell -- so much so, that until fairly recently, they were classed as BOTH sight and scent hounds. I believe the change in classification was primarily to allow them to compete in racing and lure-coursing events with the other hound groups. (They have a high prey-drive, and they love to run!)

They track by both scent and eyesight, although they are catergorized as sight hounds
