My three year old Basenji will bite if you touch him while sleeping, is this a sign he will not be good with small children?

I would get your Basenji into obedience classes and work with him. The longer you let it go, the harder it will be to correct. He may become aggressive towards everyone, even you. It starts small but can escalate if not properly taken care of. But just because he will bite while sleeping doesnt mean he wont be good with small children, he just needs guidance before he escalates into a red zone case. just IMO

If it's a real bite then no, I wouldn't let him near children. Males are more aggressive but often getting them neutered it will help a lot with that.
