Yes, Anatolian Shepherds are. If you have a garden, they are the best choice for you and your family. They are not very aggressive but protective for family members and garden or any other pets in the garden. They are more protective at nights.

No, Anatolian Shepherds are not perfect pets! Unless you are getting them as a pup and start training them right away. I adopted mine from a local shelter, when he was approx. 2 years of age. He is now 5/6. I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect pet. It all depends on how much training you are willing to do. And this breed needs training, from very early on, just alone due to their size.

I think my Anatolian Shepherd is perfect. Believe it or not, I've come to love that she's so independent even if she gives me a hard time. I think because training has been an arduous process, it's part of the reason we have such a strong bond. She's not perfect and people pleasing the way a labrador or a border collie might be, but she's perfect in her own protective right and I think that's true of the breed.

If you want an inside dog get use to living with hair all over everything including your clothes.

Not perfect due to the fact that Anatolian Shepherds are so protective. My dog is 3 and I love the fact that he looks after my household (horses, goats, even kitty) and family, but he is NOT good with other dogs and worrisome with folks he does not know. I understand that he is protecting his family, but they are not good for taking into unfamiliar situations or places.

We got our Anatolian at a shelter at 5 months, he had never had a forever home before we got him. 75lbs & he got along w our 25lb dauschaund (the alpha dog at the time). Our dauschaund has since died and Thunder has taken over the Alpha pet spot in our home...he is now 5 years old & 110 lbs. He is loyal and loving and tolerent of the kids both ours, low teens and our extended family, toddlers. Our only concern has been his protective behavior when other dogs approach our family...he sometimes gets aggressive. He also is impatient w puppies. This may have something to do with his history up to being adopted or the breed. But overall this is an AWESOME DOG!!!!
