HI! I AM CONSIDERING ADOPTING AN 8 YEAR OLD MALE CORGI/AMERICAN WATER SPANIEL. WILL HE BE SWEET AND WILL I BE ABLE TO HEAL HIS BROKEN HEART? HE WAS GIVEN UP TO A POUND BECAUSE HIS FAMILY COULDN'T TAKE CARE OF HIM. WILL HE FORGET ABOUT THE FAMILY THAT IS NEVER RETURNING? ARE THEY TRUSTING AND ARE THEY GENTLE AND ARE THEY LOYAL AND ARE THEY HAPPY FOR AFFECTION? HE'S ALMOST COMPLETELY DEAF, HOW CAN I BE UNDERSTANDING AND PATIENT? WILL HE BE SMART AND WILL HE LISTEN TO VERBAL CUES AND WILL HE UNDERSTAND SIGN LANGUAGE? WILL HE BE CUTE? WILL HE BE SWEET AND NEEDY? ALSO, HE'S LOCATED OVER 25 MINUTES AWAY. WILL THE CAR RIDE BE TOO MUCH? THANKS!

Asking if the dog will be sweet is a very unnecessary question. The dog will be fine with the car ride. He will most likely have a bit of separation anxiety to begin with as he will miss his other family. But after a while, he will bond to you and he will be fine. Once he is bonded, he will be affectionate and a happy dog. Contact your local Positive Reinforcement trainer that has worked with deaf dogs before and sign up for several classes, both private and group if available to help him understand what you want him to do and so you can understand him better.
