HI! I AM CONSIDERING ADOPTING A 1.5 YEAR OLD MALE AMERICAN STAFFORDSHIRE TERRIER. DO THEY WALK WELL ON LEASHES? ARE THEY CUTE AND KISSABLE? DO THEY ENJOY HUMANS AND CAN THEY ENTERTAIN THEMSELVES? I AM LOOKING FOR A MEDIUM SIZED DOG, ARE THEY AROUND HIGH 40'S POUNDS? THANKS!

Hi, I did the same two years ago (adopted a 1.5 yo Amstaff) and never regretted it. It will of course depend on the individual dog. Our Pepe turned out to be the cuddliest, most compliant and willing to please, kissable, humans and other dog enjoying, medium size, little care, gorgeous companion. He is not desexed but does not show any domineering tendencies whatsoever. His companions are a German Shepherd of the similar age and an older Greyhound who is a master and commander and a 12 yo Chihuahua girl who is an absolute boss to them all. Pepe likes sleeping on the bed, between the sheets or under the duvet. Walks both on a leash or follows the heel without the leash. Not a huge eater. I adopted him by chance, but if I were in a postion to choose a breed, it would certainly be an American Staffy. Good luck, hopefully it goes well for you and the dog. Cheers

American Staffordshire Terriers are DEFINITELY cute and kissable...if they are trained properly the walk well on leashes but they are strong so make sure he will walk with you rather than pull you. they love their humans and are very loyal but they are full of energy and require ALOT of excersise otherwise they get into trouble!! i would consider them to be a larger breed dog and mine is actually a big boy at about 75 to 80 pounds not sure about others. they are amazing dogs. not by any means low maintenance! hope that helps.

I got my Am Staff when he was about 5 months old from the shelter, he is almost 2 and he is awesome. Very good with other dogs at the park and my niece and nephew 4 and 2. I try to have him off the leash as much as possible. He has so much energy, so if you're not up for long runs/walks, don't get one.
