American Staffordshire Terrier's are a wonderful companion to children, they are loving and affectionate. They should be introduced slowly and proper rules set for the child in regard to appropriate interaction with the dog.
The dog also needs obedience training and correction for any rough play.
Usually the breed is very gentle and careful with children, they make wonderful playmates.
NEVER leave any child unsupervised with ANY dog.
