My wife and I have had our pit since she was 2 months old. We tried crating her and it did not work. Once we started doing more research we realized it was necessary. These dogs need a lot of exercise. A crate will only make him/her more confined. While he/she is a puppy (12 mths>) expect that things will get chewed to crap. They are very strong. Once we stopped trying to get her to use the crate she has been excellent. No accidents, no chewing things, and no destroyed furniture. When we were trying to crate train all of the above happened. Also several trainers we spoke to here in our home town. Did not suggest even attempting to crate because of the activity level the dogs posses. Our pitbull will sit by the door when we leave and wait until we get back. They are very loving and intelligent dogs. Trust the dog and he/she will give you what you're looking for as a Pet.
