Yes Eskies shed a lot. But their fur is easier to clean up than short haired shedders, and doesn't seem to make it's way into the furniture like short hair does. But grooming them is VERY time intensive, especially if you aren't willing to groom them faithfully every day. Eskies can be very friendly if you socialize them on a regular basis, and if you got them from a reputable breeder, not a backyard breeder or a pet store. My Eskie was very intelligent and loyal and loved the family, but we didn't know about socializing dogs back then. He was very wary around anyone who wasn't in the family, and he absolutely hated children.
