What kind of food are you feeding? If you feed a premium quality food with less filler, your malamute should have to go less often and in less amount. I feed a raw food diet and my dogs go less often and a small amount, since it's extremely digestable with no grain fillers. It makes housebreaking them a breeze!

Thank you yes just found a supplier for raw meat as this was recommended to us typically after we bought two more bags of science plan at £80 !! Hopefully raw meat will resolve this

Not sure if you may have tried this but your malamute is still fairly young and still learning his habits. We used to keep a younger dog in a airline type crate in our bedroom till they got the hang of the schedule at night. They were not left alone and as they are really a pretty clean breed they tend to not like to mess where they have to sleep as freely as when they can get away from it. If introduced to a crate early in the right way the dogs come to think of them as their personal den and safe place and after a while we would just leave the door open or even take it off completely and they would still sleep in it anyway. I used to show mals and the crate training also made transporting several at a time much safer for them and us on road trips.
