I Recently adopted an Malamute about 8 years old. He is way over weight and has joint problems and possibly arthritis. So he has a bit of trouble getting up and down but once he is up he seems to be fine moving around. He has been eating about 2 cups a day maybe a little less. I have been giving him glucoseamine or however you spell it and bayer asprin. I take him for walks about 3 times a week. So i guess my question would be is there anything else I can do to help this old man or if I should change what I am doing.

Unless your Vet told you to do so, I would stop the aspril. Can cause bleeding problem. As an old dog, his metablism is slow, so keeping him moving is the key. I would also take him to the Vet and make sure his thyroid is functioning normally. If it's not, that could be why he's overweight.

Bayer Asprin is very deadly for dogs. I am a vet techian and people need to learn that people medicine isn't for animals. You need to take him to a vet if you haven't and next time ask a vet and gain some knowledge before doing something like this.

Swimming is always a good exercise as it's not to hard on their joints
