QUESTION: I have a german shepherd pitbull and chow mix. He is three years old and for some reason he is becoming increasingly rebellious. Ex: when i take him on a walk he rips me off my feet into the ground. As a 200lbs man this is quite embarrassing. He used to walk next to me just fine and listen to my commands without issue. Where am i going wrong?

QUESTION: What are the values of mixed breed ?
Anonymous - 11/8/2011 9:15:02 PM
Respond to Question
Mixed-breed dogs are capable of everything a pure-bred dog is, though may not qualify for most dog showings. Generally, mix-breed dogs have a lower mortality rate, and are usually in a low-risk category for a lot of diseases that pure-bred dogs are at risk of. Some diseases that pure-breed dogs get aren't known to affect mix-breeds. Generally speaking, mix-breeds are healthier and are just as capable (if not more) at doing the same tasks as a pure-bred dog. Mix-breeds have more unique personalities and appearances compared to pure-breeds. This is because pure-breed dogs are all bred to look the same, as well as act the same. There is also some inbreeding in the lines of pure-bred dogs, which make them more susceptible to illness.

Respond to Question
Take him outside a few times a day so he gets used to eliminating outside rather than inside. Don't punish him if he potties in the house unless you catch him DURING the act. Dogs don't make connections to something they did more than 3 seconds ago. Use positive reinforcement rather than negative reinforcement. Possibly give him a treat each time he eliminates outside, and if he potties inside, ignore him for the rest of the day.

Use training pads, and introduce the dog to them and take for constant walks. If dog does not go on pad, call dog to where he/ she went, say bad dog, and put a pad. Do the same if he/she makes it onto pad, just good dog and a treat instead of scolding

QUESTION: What is the best mixed breed dog?
Anonymous - 12/5/2010 2:22:21 PM
Respond to Question
The very best dog I ever had was a lhasa, colli-chow-sheppard. He ran about 28lbs., and had stilt-like egs. He didn't shed very much and had virtually no bad habbits. He was extremely bright, and all who knew him avered that he was the coolest dog they ever met. As for a breed name, we called him a "lap sheppard."

QUESTION: I have a dog that I resuced from the animal shelter in my home town and they said that she is a shih-tzu mixed with a pekingese and they call them Shiense. She has the bumps on her back, they are very warm and she scrachs at them all the time. Is this normal?
Anonymous - 10/27/2010 4:42:49 PM
Respond to Question
It is not normal for any breed to have strange itchy bumps. It could be a basic skin allergy but it could also be cancer. A vet can tell you for sure. Take your dog to the Vet ASAP.

QUESTION: Why are there so many mixed/other dogs?
Anonymous - 9/27/2010 5:46:53 PM
Respond to Question
Dogs breed when they are intact (not spayed/neutered) and opportunities present themselves...not only when the mating is planned and desired by the owner. Sometimes the owner hasn't even realized their pet is mature enough to breed yet. Occasionally these mixed 'other' breeds are planned but usually they are considered mistakes or mis-judgements by the owners (though they can make good pets.) This is my opinion, YMMV.
