QUESTION: I just bathed my 9 week old Maltipoo, he was not a happy camper. He cried the whole time. When I tried to dry him off with a towel, he was very agitated with me. I tried rocking him and consoling him, but I think he is mad at me. Is that normal? What should I do about bathing him the next time??

QUESTION: I just got a 2 month old maltipoo, after he eats, he doesn't poop in his exercise pen where a training pad is located but when we let him out, he poops somewhere in a random corner. Is there any way to make him go poop faster in his pen?
Anonymous - 1/15/2012 9:33:16 PM
Respond to Question
Your puppy is very smart! It seems that he's caught on the the crate training habit. He's learned not to poo where he sleeps and plays and goes when he's out. What you need to do is as soon as you let him out of the pen, take him outside so he can do his business on the grass. Then reward him with praise and treats. Some people dont want to potty train their dogs to go outside and only want them to go on the wee wee pads. If that is the case, then you need to set up another pen with wee wee pads covering everywhere. Then when you bring him out of his own pen, immediately put him in the pen with the pads. As soon as he goes potty or poo, praise him and reward him, and then let him out to play. After a while of repeating this, then start leaving the pen open with the pads. So that as soon as you bring him out of his own pen, place him on the pad and he should know to do his business. Eventually he will go to the pad himself.

He is healthy other than that and has had age appropriate shots as well as his kennel cough shot. And is due to get the rest of his shots in 10 days. Other than that he seems like a pretty normal puppy. Should I have him checked sooner?

QUESTION: Hello-
My parents just adopted an 11 week old maltipoo pup, who is super cute but not overly playful, as I would expect most puppies to be. He'll play a little bit but very gently and then plop down and sometimes fall to sleep. It seems as though he would rather lounge then play, is this normal for an 11 week old puppy of any breed, let alone a maltipoo? It's fine if he does wanna be mellow, as my parents are older, but I just want to be sure as they just lost their last rescue after he was hit by a car, so I don't want anything to be wrong with this little fellow. Also, we went for the initial vet visit and the vet says he's pretty healthy aside from a minor skin irritation from being left in a yard somewhere flea-ridden - he is on antibiotics, so my first thought is possibly that he is a little under the weather but just want to be sure. Any insight would be much appreciated.
thanks very much

my maltipoo was the same for about a month and now at 4 months shes a ball of energy, you just gotta give her time to warm up to you. just give her a lot of tlc. so leave the trainning til after she warms up to you
Anonymous - 1/11/2012 1:56:58 PM
My puppy was kinda the same way. She didn't wag a lot or act overly puppy like. After a few weeks she became adjusted and attached. She is very loving and never meets a stranger. She takes LOTS of naps and sleeps all night with us. We got her at 2 months old and she is now 5 months. She will get excited and active when we want to play and she will just as easily mellow out and just lay in our laps. I hope this helps and I'm glad to know she isn't the only puppy like that. Maybe it's a maltipoo thing. Lol
Anonymous - 11/21/2011 1:37:45 AM
Puppies tend to take a lot of naps throughout the day, especially after playing. Oatmeal shampoo is good for his skin. Cortisone spray is good if he's itching.

QUESTION: Hi everyone. I just got a 6 month maltipoo pup. I got him because he was very well mannered and trained with his previous owner. On his walks and when we are out and about he is really good. He doesn't bark or get aggressive. However at home he will bark and be aggressive with guests by growling and barking incessantly. Why is this? As far as I know he didn't do this before and also he only wants to be with me!
How can I stop the barking and growling aggression. I have roommates and they work earlya nd are up and about at night. He may also have separation anxiety when I leave home from work as well. Please give me any sort of information/advise. Thank you.
One last thing... does the spray botther thing actually work?

My maltipoo is 7 yrs old and she has the same traits. However, I also have a maltese 5yrs old (i got her to keep her company)and they do well w/each other. The maltipoo is not as needy for my attention, but she has to be reminded at times of who is the pack leader. It has to do w/our actions as their owner. The show "The Dog Whisper" on NATGEO has some good advice.
The maltipo is a great dog!

QUESTION: I really want to get a dog next spring! I need help deciding what type I want. After a lot of research I came to narrow it down to two options: a maltipoo or a maltipom. Does anybody have any experience with both or know about their different characteristics and their needs? I also wonder how much the Maltipoos change and grow when they get older because I would prefer for my maltipoo to have straight hair than curly. I also would like it to look more like a Maltese and of smaller size. How can I find that out when It is still a puppy?

if you have your maltipoo on a leash but she never leash trained him, he won't walk. Walking or running is what will make him go faster, also you may be taking him at the wrong times.

QUESTION: My mom had the dog and she fed her proplan but the dog still eats grass and poop and any thing else. I think I should be switching foods. Is purina #1 for Maltipoo's?
Anonymous - 9/1/2011 11:44:06 AM
Respond to Question
The best foods ingredients, start with chicken and rice. Science diet, purina and most sold at convienence places ingredients begin with corn, meal etc. They are putting corn in everything now days. Why would a dog eat corn? Its a filler to save dog food companies money. They are doing it to our food too. Its quite alright to feed them chicken and rice too, just not a complete diet for all their nutritial needs. But if anyone ever give a soft diet they absolutely have to give hard treats and bones for their teeth.

QUESTION: I am thinking of getting a maltipoo but I'm not sure whether I should get it or not because I have a rabbit and I'm not sure if they will get along. Do you think they will?
Anonymous - 8/21/2011 6:59:25 PM
Respond to Question
My maltipoo is very playful and he runs around a lot. He gets along with my rabit and my 2 guinea pigs all the time.
Anonymous - 11/12/2011 9:51:17 AM
If you get your maltipoo as a puppy and introduce him/her to your rabbit from day one, your maltipoo will easily adapt. You will soon learn that whatever brings you joy, your maltipoo will protect and love just as much as you do! I have a guinea pig that my maltipoo adores and they play well together! Just be sure to spend the time to let them play from the beginning and all should be well!
Anonymous - 8/29/2011 3:17:18 AM
They're part poodle and the poodle part is quite good at hunting. My 5 month old maltipoo found three baby rabbits in our yard and well now their dead. I think a hawk or fox got to them, but I had to drag him away to keep him from eating the remains. Apparently rabbit is a favorit food for dogs if they are left to their own devices.

QUESTION: we live in a maisonette.is a maltipoo classed as a noisy dog?

Respond to Question
Depends if your maltipoo barks and you can always train him.
Anonymous - 11/12/2011 9:53:07 AM
Not at all. However as with ALL dogs, YIPPERS are created. I have 6 dogs in the house, shih tzu, poodles and maltese which are all considered noisy dogs. However they never make a sound due to being trained to be quiet. So its all in how you teach them and allow them to be from day ONE. :)

You should spay her around 6 months of age. They recommend doing it before the heat cycles begin. Heat cycles begin as early as 6 months on some breeds but with a maltipoo its usually a few months later. But to save a mess i'd have it done at 6 months.

you can also got to your vet to get a sleeping drug or get a sleeping collor from some place like petco it put mine out like a light just make sure not to play with him and train him to be alone for 1hr to 3 hr periods of times.
Anonymous - 12/8/2011 2:31:44 PM
It's fine to take a maltipoo with you overseas as long as you can afford the extra travel expenses. Your maltipoo will also have to be crate trained prior to the trip so he/she is comfortable during travel. As long as your maltipoo is fixed (highly recommended) the gender won't affect ease of care at all.

QUESTION: I am debating whether I get a yorkie or a maltipoo! I want a small dog that is cute and doesn't weigh a lot. What kind of dog should I get?
Anonymous - 7/9/2011 2:59:53 AM
Respond to Question
yorkiepoo's can get to be large toy sizes.
Think about how big poodles can get. So as far as size of a yorkie poo or maltipoo you'll have to know about the parents. I have maltipoo's that are bred to stay between 2-3 Lbs. I don't have yorkie's and don't know too much about them but do have people that have had them and don't want another because of nipping. Although i'm sure they are not all like that.
hawaiihill - 9/20/2011 2:23:45 PM
Yorkies are definitely smaller and lighter. Do some research on dog breed personalities to see which breed (yorkie or maltipoo) personality best suits you.
