QUESTION: WHY IS MY POODLE A FUSSY EATER ? HE'S 2YRS. OLD AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN THIS WAY. HE WAITS TILL I EAT, THEN HE WANTS TO EAT WHAT IM HAVING! (PLEASE HELP)
Anonymous - 1/2/2012 3:17:49 PM
Respond to Question
it's not that he's being picky as much as he views you as pack leader and in a pack the leader eats first then the others get a share. what you can do is offer him his food at your meal times and not give him any of your food. it's hard to resist the face he'll give you but you have to and it may take a while for him to get the clue as he's been doing this for so long.

Respond to Question
Poodles time of conceptioon is called their heat cycle.
They will secrete some blood and their female part will
be swollen. If you pay close attention, from the time it starts,it will last about 3 weeks, most likely day to breed will be on the 13th day.
Most likely they are around 8 to 9 months when this begins. Some younger some older.

QUESTION: Are mini poodles are good around kids?
soloman28 - 1/5/2011 3:35:19 PM
Respond to Question
Well, I do not absolutely know if mini poodles are good around kids, but if the age is young, the kids may not be good around them. They can accidently hurt the dog and, if bad enough, could kill it! The child has to be mature and old enough to understand that they can easily hurt the dog!

I have a poodle that we have had since he was 8 weeks old. With proper training he is amazing with children. Socializing is very important so your dog is not scared.
Anonymous - 2/4/2011 9:16:10 PM
I had a mini poodle as a 10-year old kid and she was the best pet! However, someone gave her to us and she hadn't been well-trained so she had a penchant for chasing cars. But she was a great companion.

QUESTION: I see nothing about allergies. An Allergy Dr told my daughter her son was allergic to dogs. There were several breeds that did not put off a dander that caused allergies, like a poodle. Is this still true?
Anonymous - 12/26/2010 2:38:25 PM
Respond to Question
I am also allergic to dogs and I am able to have poodles. They have to have regular baths though and haircuts. Poodles do not shed and are hypo-allergenic. Poodles have hair not fur and people who have allergies to cats, dogs or other animals will not with poodles unless the allergen is to saliva. They do not carry a dog odor. Poodles do need regular brushing and they do require haircuts just like people to keep them mat free. We recommend haircuts every 6-8 weeks or sooner.
heavenboundnow - 12/16/2011 7:28:50 PM
I am allergic to dogs and cats, but I have a Poodle and A Shih Tzu. Both breeds are considered hypo-allergenic. However as mentioned no dog is 100% allergy-free. The term hypo- means low, it does not mean zero. So there is much less chance that a person will be allergic to one these breeds. Also consider that one could be allergic to shampoos, flea & tick treatments, grass pollen etc etc that may be found on a pet's coat and it may not be the actual dog itself that the person is allergic to.
As long as my dogs are kept clipped and bathed I don't have any problems with allergies to either of them.

QUESTION: I need to know more infomation about poodles.
Anonymous - 12/26/2010 9:31:56 AM
Respond to Question
I have a rescue poodle. She was 4-5 mos old when I got her. She was very frighted around people at first and had to follow me everywhere. But, she has adjusted well and is the most loyal pet I have every had. I thought poodles were to be nervous and yappy. Mine is neither, that may be do to what she went through but if mine is the norm. I would recommend this breed.

There is actually no such size as teacup. The AKC registered sizes are Toy, Minature and Standard. Poodles are not a nightmare to groom. They may be a little more expensive if you would like a fancy poodle cut, but if trained well and groomed correctly, they are wonderful for it. Poodles are amazingly smart dogs with great temperments. They have the ability to learn but at the same time need to be kept busy and entertained. They are great!
Anonymous - 4/20/2011 10:24:26 AM
Poodles come in teacup, toy, mini and standard. They are a nightmare to groom. And they do better living in the city. They are the second smartest dog breed in the word. The toy and mini poodle might have temperment problems though. :)

QUESTION: how do you get your poodle to stop humping your legs?
Anonymous - 9/15/2010 8:33:48 PM
Respond to Question
This isn't "sexual" It is a dominance behavior. Do not allow it. Be firm, you are the Alpha pack leader...
Anonymous - 2/4/2011 7:44:58 PM
Wrap the sent of something your poodle doesnt lke to smell or get him/her a partner. It might be humping your leg because he/she wants a partner to release his or her stress to.
Anonymous - 2/1/2011 8:25:20 PM
The first recommendation is neutering your dog. Next you will need to begin training your dog with the goal of establishing yourself as his leader. The more obedient your dog becomes and the more he learns that you are the boss and he is not, the easier it will be to discourage humping behavior.
