Overview

Like the American Cocker Spaniel, the English Cocker Spaniel is sensitive. Handled with tenderness and respect, he makes a willing learner. English Cockers are joyful, entertaining, and active friends to all people.

Character

The English Cocker Spaniel is intelligent, lively, gentle, affectionate, and easygoing.

Temperament

This dog gets along very well with other dogs, family pets, and children.

Care

Regular grooming with a brush and comb is required, as the coat is prone to tangles. Special attention should be paid to the hair on the legs and ears. It may be necessary to take the dog to a grooming professional two - four times a year to have excess hair trimmed or plucked. The ears should be cleaned regularly.

Coat

Medium-length, silky and smooth. It should not be curly. The most common colors are liver roan (with or without tan markings), orange roan, blue roan, liver patches (with or without tan markings), black, black and tan, white with black, red, russet brown, or liver.

Training

This breed is naturally willing to learn and quickly understands what is expected of it. A great deal of understanding and consistency during training is necessary as it may try to take over your role.

Activity

Three walks a day are usually enough to keep them happy, but they also need to have regular opportunities to run freely in the countryside. Most really enjoy swimming.

QUESTION: How much do English Cocker Spaniels cost?

Anonymous - 11/2/2010 11:26:01 AM

Respond to Question

We bought our solid red English Cocker from a good breeder that we've had before. The breeder shows her dogs and they have won many ribbons at dog shows across the U.S. Our cocker is 4 years old now....so 4 years ago we paid $900.00 for him. The female we had purchased from this same breeder cost $400 but that was over 16 years ago and she passed away in 2006. But they are worth every penny. My solid red does not shed. The blue roan I had before shed slightly but nothing compared to other dogs. They are good natured and even tempered to everyone, and they love other dogs. Their fur is so soft and silky and they like to be with people to love and cuddle up. Great dog. Ours also loves to go bird hunting for grouse....good flusher.

The price can varies on if you are buying a show quality pup or just a house dog... i have seen some puppies go for around 200usd for a house dog and upwards of 1700usd for a show pup..

QUESTION: What is the diet of 1 month female English Cocker Spaniel?

Anonymous - 10/29/2010 9:52:54 AM

Respond to Question

Not 100% sure on a Female but our Male 1 year old get 1cup of food in the morning and another cup of food about 4 hours before he is about to go to bed.. and it doesn't hurt to sprinkle a few treats here and there for the little one ;-)
