We have tried not giving any people food to him but he gets so hungry he will eat paper or tissues because he is so hungry. I am at a loss as what to do. Any suggestions?

QUESTION: I inherited a Cavalier from an aunt who had bought it in a pet store. Is it likely to have health problems because it is not from a breeder?
Anonymous - 12/15/2011 5:16:20 PM
Respond to Question
Absolutely not! We got our Cavalier from a pet store and he has had no health issues and has the best personality ever. You do however need to be very careful. We got all his papers and the store offered us free training for his life. We had a wonderful experience but were so scared because of all the horor stories we have heard. Good Luck!

QUESTION: I have the sweetest little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that we adopted this summer. He's 4yo & not fixed. We were planning on getting him at the end of the summer since we knew we would be gone for vacations. Well he just fell into our laps & we couldn't say "no" (who could?). So we had him for a week before we left on vacation for a week (does this make sense?). When we got back he started marking all over the place! I don't know how to make it stop. I've heard that we should get him fixed...others say he's too old for it to help. What do I do?

We have two cavaliers and 3 11 week old puppies and they DO NOT shed a TON. I totally disagree with the individual who responded to you earlier.
Anonymous - 11/23/2011 5:18:57 PM
I don't have facts I can site but I would say no, cavaliers are not good for kids with asthma. They shed A TON and the dander cannot be good for asthma. Ask your pediatrician and I bet they will tell you the same thing.

QUESTION: I have a ten month old female cavalier, but her ears have never grown past her cheeks. They are same size as when I got her at eight weeks, will they grow?
Anonymous - 9/15/2011 11:48:09 AM
Respond to Question
Cavalier babies can take 2 years to grow a full coat and longer ears. Some bloodlines have longer fuller ears than others. Our Tri color babies seem to grow longer ear hair than our Blenheim babies in half the time. Don't give up just a daily brushing and keeping her ears clean and mite free will help.

QUESTION: Prices for Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's??? HELP!!!!! thanks
Anonymous - 9/13/2011 9:31:03 PM
Respond to Question
Cavalier baby prices have a wide range. We price our babies by Pet quality(family member) price and show quality price. I don't see the point in charging someone who has no intentions of showing or breeding, show quality price. Both have the same health guarantee's and are equal in health quality. Price's are way down from years ago.
rtilson - 10/8/2011 2:03:03 PM
Depends on the breeder and how far you are willing to travel... Cavalier King Charles Spaniel's are usually over 1000

QUESTION: Will my puppy's hair grow out? I've heard some mention about "puppy coats" but I can't seem to find any information on the internet. Most sites just list the basic "Cavaliers have wavy coats that need to be brushed". My puppy is 13 weeks and with the exception of her gorgeous curls (on her ears) her hair is so short you can't even brush it. I was wondering when her hair will begin to grow?
Anonymous - 9/12/2011 4:50:16 PM
Respond to Question
Yes, it is true that your Cavalier has a puppy coat. They are born with a short coat that quickly turns into a fluffy puppy coat. Your baby will have shed it's puppy coat by 12 weeks and will have a short slick coat. Over the next few months it will thicken up and grow longer. It can take up to two years to see an adult coat.
rtilson - 10/8/2011 2:06:12 PM
My cavaliers took 2 years to fully grow their coats, and then started to shed much more than I had ever expected. You have to love them, despite that flaw.

QUESTION: Do cavaliers cost over 1000 dollars??? how quickly can they be potty trained??? I am EXTREMELY interested in a cav. and i would really like to own one, but I can't afford it if it is over 1000 dollars!!!
Anonymous - 9/8/2011 9:18:41 PM
Respond to Question
Cav pups are like any other pup - normal potty training is required (it'll take as long as you put the effort into training). Yes most breeders and all pet stores sell cavs for more than 1000, but try looking for an older dog (left over that never found his forever home). When this happens to my pups, I offer them anywhere from 600 to 800.

QUESTION: Why did my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel just try to attack our friend across the street on his bike when our dog Dusty knows him ? Why would he do that when he has never done such a thing to hurt or harm anyone or anything? I have to know because my dog Dusty is in trouble for doing that. So i need to know why he would do that.
Anonymous - 9/5/2011 2:55:20 PM
Respond to Question
Cavaliers are usually mild mannered. He may not have been "attacking" but "chasing" as in a game. Cavliers do have a tendancy to run, and should be kept in a fenced in yard.

QUESTION: How much and how often do you feed a 12 week Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy?
Anonymous - 9/4/2011 9:41:59 PM
Respond to Question
I also need help with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy who was born on 8/21/11 who can't stop eating. I feed her twice a day with bil-jac puppy food with liver abd veggies but she can't stop eating. She eats my other dogs (bison-frise) food and anything else she can find. She has already gained 3lbs in the 3 weeks we have had her. What can I do to make her stop eating?
Anonymous - 11/10/2011 8:52:09 AM
My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is 12 weeks as well and she eats about a cup twice a day. There should be feeding instructions on the back of the bag. You should feed your puppy what it says but pay attention as she will no doubt need it to tailored to her (she might eat more or less).

As a breeder I tell my customers that if you are cold, your Cavalier is cold. Same goes for hot weather. I will not leave any of my 8 cav's out for any extended period of time in the winter.

QUESTION: Can you crate a cavalier puppy with a Springer puppy?
Anonymous - 8/31/2011 8:54:38 PM

As with any puppies, it depends on their personalities and age of the two puppies. Cavaliers are very easy going. I'd say try it with supervision and see how they do.

QUESTION: How long do cavalier king charales live for
Anonymous - 8/29/2011 6:44:48 PM
Respond to Question
As a breeder of registered Cavaliers with many years of experience, the Cavalier KC Spaniels average life span is 12 to 14 years. Just because the parents are Certified in no way eliminates a baby of hereditary disease. There are four generations that come into play. It does give some reassurance however that the PARENTS were healthy. How YOU care for your baby will make a huge difference in your Cavaliers lifespan.
rtilson - 10/8/2011 2:14:26 PM
If you buy a Quality, AKC puppy, Cavaliers can live 10-14 years. Watch out for un-registered puppies with non-certified parents. They are prone to Heart Disease.
I have been breeding cavaliers for 6 years now with no health issues.

QUESTION: I just got a ruby cav king charles, he's now 10 weeks old and I was just wanting to know if its normal for their coats to get really light??
Anonymous - 8/12/2011 3:23:52 PM
Respond to Question
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels coat gets darker if you give them a bath :) We have a blenheim and he looked all white but the red came through when he had his first bath :) xx
Anonymous - 9/11/2011 5:23:52 PM
Yes - the coat color can change as the texture changes - this is normal with young cavaliers. In general - adult coats are darker in color than the softer "puppy" coat or coat of a spay/neutered adult.
heritagejpv - 8/22/2011 8:39:35 PM
Our ruby is around 7 months and his coloring is still very deep. However, a neighbor of ours has a ruby, and his hair is more curly and it actually has white in it. I think it just depends on the dog as to the coloring.

QUESTION: What about the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (what a name) might convince my parents to get one? If we do get one, should we get two? Or would this breed do well off alone. Either way it's not a problem. Please help!
Anonymous - 7/20/2011 10:33:10 PM
Respond to Question
Cavaliers are the ultimate love sponges. They are generaly quite happy to do whatever you want to do, when you want to do it. But they like nothing better than cuddling up and being the center of attention. As they are smaller dogs they are easy to take with you but a well adjusted dog can be left home if need be. They are very smart and usually eager to learn what you want them to do. Apeall to their belly and they will learn to do just about anything.

I have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They love to play together!! However, if I am loving on one, the other gets a little jealous. If there are long periods of time that you are not home, I think two is best since they love companionship!!

If you type in cavalier king charles spaniel information, there is a website that says everything! I want one too! REALLY BAD!!!!! :] I checked that website out and it says that they are great dogs and that they can live in an apartment easily! Good luck with getting one! Wish me good luck too!!!:]
Anonymous - 9/8/2011 9:08:54 PM
Cav's can do well in all kinds of homes. They are smaller so if you have a small apratment or small home, that is okay. Just make sure that they get to go out for long walk when possible. However, do not take a cavalier out without a leash or let them play outside off-leash without a fenced in yard. They tend to fixate on things and go after it without taking in the surrounding environment, ie: streets and vehicles.

QUESTION: I'm 14 and I'm getting a german shepherd. I would walk that dog and do everything for it except drive it to places. My brother might get a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel around the same time I get mine. They would both be puppies at the same time. Would they get along? Would a German Shepherd and a Cavalier get along?
Anonymous - 7/19/2011 1:47:06 PM
Respond to Question
Cavaliers can get along with almost any other dogs. The fact that they would be puppies together is a very good way for them to learn about each other. Just be careful that when they play, the cavalier doesn't get hurt. Also, feed them separately. Cav's tend to be very protective of their dinners.
