QUESTION: I have a 4 year old male Beauceron that is unneutered. I have never seen the reason too because he is so loving and nurturing. Although no matter how much I feed him he will not gain weight. Most of the time you can see his ribs and feel his hip bones. He is current on his shots, but I was curious if getting him neutered would help him gain some weight. Or is there something else I can do?

Respond to Question

QUESTION: People are telling me that Beauceron's are good watchdogs, but I live in an area with numerous wild cats and pigs, not to mention an "eccentric" neighbor with about half a dozen sheep and 2 donkeys that that she lets "roam the wild"... meaning venture onto our property. Will this dog freak and start barking at night (in the case of cats), and will it attack the roaming wildlife and get mule kicked (or donkey kicked in this case)? I appreciate any response.

Respond to Question

WOW. I do not live anywhere like that, although I have a four year old Beauceron. I let him come with me every where and he doesn't chase a thing. I'm sure it sounds odd, but he just never has. He plays with the cat and plays fetch but if someone drives by, or rides by he will just stare at them. It also took me till he was 1 1/2 years old to hear him bark. He is still a very silent dog, although the new puppy has helped to make him vocal. He is just an amazing personal companion. I would suggest allowing him to walk around the property so he knows what its supposed to look like. They're very smart.

My Beauceron feared nothing from bulls, to its favorite meal, cats and squirrels, she even climbed trees and caught birds in flight - what a dog! Loved people and most other dogs. Highly intelligent and will do well with small kids and any animal its raised with. Was very motherly and easy to train. She was the best lived till she was 14.

What dog wouldn't bark to a cat? Some dogs bark to play, some bark just to kill the cat. Beauceron's are a powerful breed it depends how will you raise the dog.

Yes it might that is why you would socialize the Beauceron with everyone in the family except if you want it just to obey and be loyal to you only.
