QUESTION: Rescued a 3 year old female American Pit Bull Terrier. She was bred to sell the puppies. The abusive owner kicked her out. At least 2 litters, maybe more. Contacted previous vet and found she was taken once in 2010, they knew nothing of her pregnancies. When she is well adjusted we will take her to the vet. We expect she needs all her shots. Our major question is about her lady parts. Obviously hard used. Nipples hang half to an inch long. Vagina seems herniated. She was in heat for three weeks, but there was no change in her appearance from before or now after. She allows me to touch her anywhere. These areas are not sensitive. She is very good about cleaning herself and we have a rinse after muddy walks. Any experience with females who have been bred too often too young? Will she be more prone to urinary tract infections? Should she be on a vitamin supplement or special diet? Any other considerations for her future? A lovely, well behaved girl. We hope to do our best by her.

Anonymous - 4/30/2012 5:56:56 PM
Respond to Question
there is no reason to worry alot of people believe that pits are born violent and dominant but their not it depends on how well they are socialized with each other. have no fear the pit mix will probably grow to protect the other dog you have rather then eat him up
pittlover4811 - 5/9/2012 3:55:54 PM
You shouldnt have gone ahead and got a puppy that you are scared of, it might be to much to handle, but anyways I have 2 pitbulls, both males, one is 10 months old, other one is 2 years old, they love each other and hate being away from each other, not all pitbulls are bad dogs. So get that thought out of your head.

If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be breeding your dog. Especially a pit bull when they are so overpopulated that that's almost all you see in shelters.

when did you breed her and try asking a vet they know a lot more than anyone cause they have the expertise to tell how long it will be

QUESTION: I have an American Pit Bull Terrier- 1 year old and everybody keeps telling me that it doesn't look like a pitbull because of his long nose. Can a pitbull have a long nose?
Anonymous - 4/26/2012 8:26:01 AM
Respond to Question
Do your research on apbts, if your dog doesn't look like the average pit bull, it's probably not full blooded. Gotti and razors edge are not breeds of pit bulls. They are bloodlines and technically American bullies. the color of nose has nothing to do with anything. It's just that. A nose. It's not a breed and a red or blue nose is not rare or special.
Anonymous - 5/12/2012 2:08:35 AM
yes there are different breeds of pit bulls, for instance gotti, rednose, blue razor edge.

My Pitt Bull has been eating grass since she first set her paws on it. She loves certain types of grass so much that we refer to, and she understands it as - her salad. She has never been sick before or after eating it. Shes soon to be 5 years old.
Anonymous - 5/2/2012 4:14:45 PM
I owned a completely happy and healthy dog once who sometimes ate grass simply because it tasted good. He grazed like a cow, but he never got sick a day in his life.

Yes it is, when they have an upset stomach or the food your feeding them is perhaps high in a certain ingred. which triggers this, they will eat good green grass to make up the difference of ingred. missing or to aid that which has caused them the up-set stomach, God Bless...

QUESTION: between what age you can cut pitbull ears n tail
Anonymous - 3/12/2012 3:07:45 PM
Respond to Question
Between 9 weeks old to 6 months old. The tail should not be cut, but cutting the ears is very normal, even with uck, akc, abkc world champion dogs, all of them have their ears cropped, it adds to the dogs appearance as well as when the dogs ears are cropped, one can note their behaviour as well in how that the dogs moves his ears, God Bless...
pastorjhart - 3/17/2012 12:17:28 PM
Cutting the ears and tails of dogs is mutilation. There is absolutely no benefit to the dog whatsoever for having these procedures done, and owners do this to their dogs to satisfy their own egos. If you truly love your pit bull, leave him/her exactly as nature intended.

QUESTION: My boyfriend has a 4yr old blue pit, I have a 2 pound chorkie and 2 pound chihuahua. We have moved in together. I have kept them seperate due to their difference in size however they often smell each other through the screen door and cry when trying to be near one another. I would love to allow them around eachother but im afraid due to the size issue that there isnt much room for mistakes. I have taken the chorkie outside in my arms and the pitt will get up and try to be near him. he has never been hostile in any way he is the sweetest dog. they are both males. Should i just keep them seperate?
Anonymous - 3/6/2012 6:15:55 PM
Respond to Question
My 2 pitbulls are great with other dogs, well small ones, and my one still has his balls, best thing to do is have your boyfriend leash his pitbull and you leash ONE of your dogs (more then one at a time can feel over powering no matter the size) outside in a area where no one feels like they are the "king" of the area and then make sure you have a tight hold on both the dogs and let them interact but if one snaps pull them away, disapline them and try again, its the best way to get dogs to get along, I have worked with serveral dogs with agressive issues against other dogs and this works about 80% of the time :) good luck!
Anonymous - 5/6/2012 9:45:47 PM
try it for a while but supervise them for the whole while their together so if something gets out of hand u can intervene and stop it, make sure they know you are the alpha dog cause pits will sometimes try to take over the house and i hope that helps you out a lot

QUESTION: I have a 1 year old pitbull..my problem with him is that he keeps destroying everything i put in his house..I bought him a lot of toys so he can play with instead of destroying the things that i put in his house but nothing works. What can i do to stop it?
Anonymous - 2/22/2012 10:11:42 AM
Respond to Question
Your apbt has a lot of energy and needs to use it...you need to work with him/her more to use this energy, and as far as destroying everything in his house, you might need to invest in things he cannot destroy like metal food/watering pans, and even the dog house its self to a very hard plastic. Good toys are hard to find in which apbt will not tear up, I suggest going to krogers or a like place and having them get you a cut in half a raw large femer bone, the dog will chew on this for weeks, which can distract him from chewing on other things, God Bless...

Yes, pit bulls are very energetic - keep her on a good puppy food, and spend some scheduled time with her daily, this energy needs to be used, some time a tread mill is good because owners cant take the dog out as required, this helps her use some of this energy as well...God Bless.

Anonymous - 2/12/2012 7:51:45 AM
Respond to Question
Heat cylces on dogs can vary, her second time should be in another six months, mark the date she came in heat the first time, and then the second time, then when the third time comes around (which places the dog at about 1 1/2 old) you should be planned and ready, seeing you have been keeping note of her cycle. The second heat is young to breed her, she is still growing and developing out, not real easy to size up to a male at that age, seeing she's not fully developed, God Bless...

There is nothing wrong, as long as she did not lock up with a male, Pitbull females can produce milk during and after their heat cycles, dont let it alarm you, this is certainly no reason to have her fixed unless you dont plan on breeding her, God Bless...
pastorjhart - 2/21/2012 8:55:13 AM

QUESTION: what are the breeds that make-up the pit-bull
Anonymous - 1/20/2012 7:05:21 PM
Respond to Question
American pit bull terriers, American staffordshire terriers, staffordshire bull terriers, and American bull dogs are four of the main breeds that are considered under the term 'pit bull.'
Anonymous - 5/12/2012 2:20:04 AM
Pit bulls are actually one of the oldest and certainly one of the purest. Written pit bull pedigrees date into the late 1700's, something very few other breeds can boast of. Pit bulls have been a registered breed longer than most AKC breeds have been in existence. Louis Colby's father, John Colby, gave his son a handwritten pedigree of Colby's Blind Jack, an animal born in 1932. The pedigree stretches back more than 50 years, naming, in Louis Colby's words, "the best fighting dogs in England and America in the past fifty years." In the mid 1880's, the breed was already old.

QUESTION: Our 3 month old pit bull growls menacingly whenever we leave him tied to a post, or whenever we make him do something he doesn't want to do. I'm wary of getting close to him whenever he does that. How can I make him stop this very undesirable behavior?
Anonymous - 1/17/2012 11:15:51 AM
Respond to Question
To say your pit bull has an mental imbalance is not proveable, first, does this dog have a good pedigree or do you have something thats a little bit (a little of this and a little of that, a mix of ?) if hes a mix, you should be careful and consult the owner as to what the pup is, secondly, if your budget allows it have him looked over a few times by a good dog trainer and get their thoughts on the pup. A.P.BT. are very easy to work with if it is indeed an a.p.b.t., if this persist, I dont want to be the bearer of bad news, but I would have the dog put down, this is not safe for you or anyone else, regardless of what type of dog it is, God Bless...
pastorjhart - 2/21/2012 9:07:49 AM
dont tie him up pitbulls are very territorial and if you dont maintain the upper hand he will claim the pole area as his and good luck getting it to do anything you want it to when it decides not to let you so just start taking it out to exercise and if it is too much for you to handle find a home that can keep up with it because if i see it tied to a pole im cutting it off
Anonymous - 2/17/2012 11:53:04 AM
What are you making him do that he objects to? First, I agree with other responders - to stop tying him to a pole. Pits hate that. They are good listeners and do well with consistent oral commands and treats for proper behavior.Pits just want love. Be careful with him or you will ruin him and potentially become a bad dog owner and create a problem dog.
Anonymous - 2/15/2012 11:07:31 AM
This is a very dangerous situation. The dog has what we call in the vet buisness as a mental imbalance. If your pit bull is doing this at 3months already the dog needs temperment tested and blood work done. Please be careful with this pitt.
Anonymous - 1/31/2012 9:47:28 PM
actually your pit bull is displaying dominance over you. he is the alpha. if he doesn't like what you are doing he may growl or even bite you.
Anonymous - 1/29/2012 11:08:56 PM
First of all don't tie your pit bull against the pole and
treat him nicely or like more carefully and let him
do what he wants - lay low for a couple of weeks
or a month and then do what you usually did

Never leave them alone together, never, regardless of what you think, always have then created seperatly, never let them feed together either; as far as them getting along, one will be alpha, just keep a good eye on them while they play together and keep their fowl behaviour in line by simply and immediatly addressing it, if you see one of the males acting improper, take him gently under the jaw and strick his nose lightly and say no, thus letting the male know his limits...God Bless.

they look at your family as a pack and will display this behavior as it is the same as people being brought into a new family just be supportive and understanding of her but maintain the upper hand or it will get out of control as she is looking for a place in the pack and someone has to be the dominant one and it should be you

QUESTION: I have a pit bull and my family wants a new dog, I was wondering if she would get along with a queensland heeler mixed with a Australian Shepard, can anybody help me with this? I have looked all the way across the Internet.

Respond to Question
Any dog can get along with another one if introduced properly and if neither are dominant!
Anonymous - 5/6/2012 9:59:46 PM
We have a pit bull/Queensland mix, who is the best dog - except that she wants to be dominant. We took in a pit bull puppy and now that she's matured, neither one will submit to the other and they fight a lot, so we have to rehome one of them. Of course one of the issues is that they're both female. Just my 2 cents...
Anonymous - 2/12/2012 4:10:18 PM
Your problem will be with the heeler. The heeler is a very dominate dog. This breed in itself needs a strong owner. Your best bet is to make sure one is female the other male.
Don't look at "breed" look at temperment. Is your dog socialized? Is the other a pup? "Pitbulls" (not an actual breed) as you know are very loving. They can and do accept other animals. As with any other dog, it's all in how you raised it.
Anonymous - 2/10/2012 3:37:34 PM
if your going to get another dog with a pit bull make sure its a baby.. because pits tend to act as a mother towards them . i have 3 pits and they dont get along with any older dogs . they only get along with babys? weird i know but they just feel as its there own
Anonymous - 1/12/2012 11:52:17 PM
It is not the breeding of the other dog what makes a bully get along with it. Your bully must be socialized with other dogs and you must be the packleader in the house before you bring another dog in. i have a 90lb male pit that lives in the house with two female labs one 12lb jack russell and 7 toy poodles that all weigh less than 5lbs each. If they are socialized and treated right and taught that fighting or growning is not acceptable then every thing should be ok. Also dogs usually get along better with a dog of the opposite sex.
southernrebelskennel - 1/2/2012 1:10:12 PM
You would probably have to introduce them to each other. My pit loves all dogs, but I have heard of some that want to be an only dog. Best way is to introduce him or her and see how it reacts.

Yes, some American pit bull's have the ability to have their ears in a full stand without being cropped when alert, as a breeder we have had some with ears that stand full up when alerted, there is nothing wrong with this, God Bless...
pastorjhart - 2/21/2012 9:21:53 AM
He can't be a "Pitbull" since that isn't a breed. The term pitbull came from breeding different breeds to design a good fighting dog in the "pit".
Most are a derivative of breeds like Staffordshire Terriers, Bull Mastiffs, Bull Terriers etc.
Learn more on these breeds to get a better understanding of your dog. Most of these dogs were originally for the herding/working group.
