Expected Budget: Buying vs. Owning in 2017

Learn what to expect when researching the price of Shorkie puppies.

How much do Shorkie puppies cost?

The cost to buy a Shorkie varies greatly and depends on many factors such as the breeders' location, reputation, litter size, lineage of the puppy, breed popularity (supply and demand), training, socialization efforts, breed lines and much more. Review how much Shorkie puppies for sale sell for below.

The current median price for all Shorkies sold is $737.50. This is the price you can expect to budget for a Shorkie with papers but without breeding rights nor show quality. Expect to pay less for a puppy without papers, however, we do not recommend buying a puppy without papers.

Looking for a dog with a superior lineage? Are you trying to determine how much a puppy with breeding rights and papers would cost? You should expect to pay a premium for a puppy with breeding rights or even for a puppy advertised as show quality with papers. You should budget anywhere from $1,500 upwards to $5,100 or even more for a Shorkie with top breed lines and a superior pedigree. The average cost for all Shorkies sold is $700.

Annual cost of owning a Shorkie puppy

Before buying a puppy it is important to understand the associated costs of owning a dog. The annual cost or "upkeep" is often overlooked when determining a Shorkies true ownership cost. When calculating your budget make sure you account for the price of food, vaccines, heartworm, deworming, flea control, vet bills, spay/neuter fees, grooming, dental care, food, training and supplies such as a collar, leash, crate, bed, bowls, bones, and toys. All of these items can add up quickly so make sure you estimate anywhere from $500 - $2,000 or more for the first year then about $500 - $1,000 or more every year thereafter to meet the annual financial obligations of your growing, loving dog.

Anonymous asked:
How big do Shorkies get and are they good with kids?

Anonymous

The average weight for the Shih Tzu/Yorkshire Terrier cross is between 7-15 lb. The breed is known to do fine with children, but all interactions should be supervised, as the dog as a puppy and adult can easily be injured by children if not careful.

Anonymous asked:
Do Shorkies shed?

Anonymous

Yes, the mixed breed of dog called Shorkie (AKA: Shih Tzu/Yorkshire Terrier) do shed, however, they do not shed a lot compared to their pure-bred counterparts.

Anonymous asked:
My Shorkie pants when he rides in the car. We are planning a car trip. What can I do for him to make the trip easier? He does not pant when we fly.

Unless your Shorkie is hot, the panting is most likely a sign of anxiety for your dog. This is something you are going to need to discuss with your vet. He/She will be able to turn you to a Positive Reinforcement trainer to be able to work with your dog on his anxiety when in a vehicle, or he/she will be able to give you medication to give to your dog to help him be calm when in the vehicle. But none-the-less, you should take him to the vet for a once-over to make sure there isn't anything wrong. The movement of the car could be hurting him someway and the panting is his way of telling you something is wrong.

Anonymous asked:
I have an 8 week Shorkie, is it ok to leave water out for him at all times?

Anonymous

Yes, you should ALWAYS leave cool, fresh water out for your dog at all times.
