I have 2 teacup Yorkies only a year apart. My son who is 12 months old loves to push, grab, and lay on my teacups. My husband says we need a bigger dog. Do you think this dog can handle all the affections my son and husband have. I was looking at a golden, but it's too friendly. I don't live in a good area but I have a huge yard. Do you think this dog would be okay with guarding my family when they venture out into the yard? I don't want to buy an Estrela Mountain Dog puppy if it's not a good fit for my family.

The Estrela Mountain Dog would work for what you want in a family dog. But please be careful as to where you get it from. Only a dog from a reputable breeder that strives for the best health, temperament and standards is what you want. Paying a bit more in the beginning may be hard, but it will be worth it.

How much do Estrela Mountain Dogs usually cost?

You can fly to Portugal and get an Estrela Mountain Dog puppy for sale over there. Best not to ship from Portugal back to the States as the health of the puppy would be put in jeopardy. They average around $800.

I'm from Portugal and getting a Serra da Estrela dog is relatively easy around here. A dog with pedigree will cost you around $750, but you can get one without pedigree for less than $100.
