Overview
The Cavachon is created by crossing two breeds: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frise. They are typically referred to as "designer dogs". They have become popular companions, especially to allergy sufferers.
Character
Small to medium in sie, the Cavachon possesses large expressive eyes and a sporty appearance. They are alert, sturdy, animated, and lively.
Temperament
The Cavachon is affectionate, loving, and gentle. They are very family oriented and do not do well if ignored or left alone for extended periods of time. They do best with older, considerate children or with children they have been with from puppyhood. Cavachon's will generally get along with dogs, cats, and other household pets. The Cavachon is non-aggressive but will alert their family to visitors and out of the ordinary sounds.
Care
Depending on coat type, the Cavachon requires regular brushing or professional clipping. It is important to regularly check and clean the ears. Dental hygiene is important to prevent early tooth loss. Cavachon's may be prone to such health issues as ear infections, skin problems, sensitivity to flea bites, heart problems, and hip dysplasia.
Coat
The coat of the Cavachon may be silky and slightly wavy or loosely curled.
Training
Early socialization and obedience are recommended. The Cavachon may be difficult to housetrain. The crate method is recommended. Training must be done with firmness, fairness, patience, and consistency.
Activity
The Cavachon is relatively active indoors. They are well suited for apartment living. They enjoy family activities, securely leashed walks, and off-lead play time in a securely fenced yard.
Ownership
Help reduce the number of Cavachon puppies in shelters by doing your due diligence. Many puppies are often purchased with little or no knowledge of what goes into parenting one. Uneducated decisions often leave the puppy in need of adoption and in the care of rescue groups. Bringing home a puppy into your family has many benefits but we first implore you to educate yourself. An informed decision will take into account the characteristics of the breed, your lifestyle, expected veterinary care, the demands and limitations of owning one, their activity requirements and levels of companionship required.

Do cavachon puppies smell or have little odor? How long can you leave cavachons for on their own?

The Cavachon is a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Bichon Frise. The C.K.C.S, nor the Bichon Frise are known for odor, however, the better quality food the dog is eating, and more the dog is groomed, the less odor your dog will have. Going to a groomer, or using the correct shampoo will also diminish the 'doggy smell' that some people notice on certain dogs. An adult dog, whom has been exercised and let out to use the bathroom before the other leaves should be able to hold it for 5 - 8 hours. However, do not expect a puppy to be able to hold it for more then 2 hours. Please note that the longer you make your dog wait to use the bathroom, the higher percentage you have of your dog either having an accident and/or getting an infection from not being able to relieve itself.

So having a plan, such as having a friend, family member, or dog sitter to come in the middle of the day to allow the dog to relieve itself if you can not come back home for lunch is best. But, making sure your dog is on a feeding schedule and not free fed, making sure your dog is exercised before you leave and that he/she has fresh water and something to do (ie: a bone or toy to chew on/play with) while you are gone, your dog shouldn't have any issues.

The ideal Cavachon is 50% Cavalier and 50% Bichon. Hybrid puppies are considered FIRST generation only if both parents are purebred dogs. In the case of the Cavachon, the parents would be a purebred Cavalier and a purebred Bichon. That ensures the 50/50 rule and all of the great things that go along with being owned by a Cavachon. Puppies are considered SECOND generation if both parents are hybrids which is what you are asking about. The question then becomes what is the lineage of the parents. If you would like to more about First, Second and even Third generation hybrid puppies there is a much more in-depth article on our blog. Hope this helps. Kelly & Jack

Yes, the puppies should be healthy if both the parents are. But, the pups may look more like a Bichon or more like a Cavalier King Charles. They also probably will not be hypoallergenic because they are second generation pups. -vet2b

Cavachons are a cross between a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are considered a mix breed, designer dog, or hybrid. They are a 'breed' that was first started at Century Farm Puppies back in 1996.

If she is straining to pee at the end, she could have a bladder infection.

why are 93% of cavachons puppies dying to early why are 93% of cavachons puppies dying to early

I think 93% of the puppies dying too early is NOT accurate. But the reason of some dying too early is because Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are 20x more likely to get heart disease than other breeds. You can prevent you Cavachon from having heart disease if you see if the Cavalier parent had any heart problems.

Cavachons NEVER seem to get tired out! We take ours out once a day for about an hour though they will walk all day.
