Overview
The Bich poo, also known as the Poo chon, is created by the crossing of two breeds: Bichon Frise and Poodle. They are commonly referred to as "designer dogs" and have become popular companions.
Character
The ideal Bich poo should be robust, well-proportioned, and hardy. They are small in stature, possess a sturdy appearance, and exhibit a sweet expression.
Temperament
Affectionate, friendly, and loyal, the Bich poo is spirited and has a pleasing personality. They do best in a home with older, considerate children or with children they have been with from puppyhood. They are suitable for homes with dogs, cats, and other household pets. Bich poo's are suspicious of strangers and will bark to alert their family to visitors or out of the ordinary sounds.
Care
The coat of the Bich poo requires frequent brushing and professional clipping to prevent matting and tangling. Bathing should be done when necessary. It is important to keep the ears clean to prevent infection. Dental hygiene is important to prevent early tooth loss. Bich Poo's may be prone to such health issues as PRA, epilepsy, diabetes, cataracts, and skin disorders.
Coat
Loosely curled and may be wooly or coarse in texture.
Training
The Bich poo may be difficult to housetrain. The crate training method works best. Early socialization and obedience are recommended. They will not respond to harsh or heavy-handed methods. Training must be done with firmness, fairness, patience, and consistency.
Activity
The Bich poo is well-suited for city and apartment living. They thrive on family interaction, securely leashed walks, and off-lead play time in a securely fenced yard.
Ownership
Help reduce the number of Bich-Poo - Bichpoo puppies in shelters by doing your due diligence. Many puppies are often purchased with little or no knowledge of what goes into parenting one. Uneducated decisions often leave the puppy in need of adoption and in the care of rescue groups. Bringing home a puppy into your family has many benefits but we first implore you to educate yourself. An informed decision will take into account the characteristics of the breed, your lifestyle, expected veterinary care, the demands and limitations of owning one, their activity requirements and levels of companionship required.

how much grooming and exercise does a bich-poo need?

The grooming requirements of the Bich-Poo is every day. You should set aside 10 minutes every day to brush your dog. However, they also should be going to a groomer about once to twice a month, depending on how dedicated you are to your dog. The Bich-Poo needs about an hour of exercise a day at a light jog such as going to the dog park and playing with other dogs, or a brisk walk.

Not necessarily, but, your Bich-Poo is quite large. In all dogs, you should be able to lay a hand on the dog's side and feel the ribs without having to push your fingers in. Do understand that with furrier dogs, you will have to move your fingers to the skin to do this. Contacting your vet is a good idea, as they can give you body fat analysis for your dog. Switching your dog to a grain-free, high quality food and taking him out more often for exercise for at least an hour a day will help your dog loose weight. The Bichon Frise ranges from 11 - 22 pounds, while the Miniature Poodle ranges from 15 - 17 pounds. So he is in the range, but if you can not feel his ribs, he could stand to loose a pound or two.

No. Bichon frises and poodles both have hair instead of fur, so when their hair grows it curls. They are also hypo-allergenic

This time of year he continually licks the outside deck, rug, etc. presently he is antsy, can't sit still. This is cedar pollen season. We have spent a lot of money with a vet. for his allergies. Has anyone else dealt with this problem?

Since they are breed of poodle and bichons and poodles come in three sizes they can be up to about 18 lbs. I got my 2 yr. old from the pound and I'm not sure of her breed. She is 10 lbs., with white wolly hair and a sweet, gentle demeanor.
